More Chinese netizens have access to faster Internet from their homes, according to latest figures.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China just held a webinar in Beijing covering the growth of broadband services. During the meeting, Miao Wei, minister of MIIT, said that in 2012, China's fiber to the home project entered over 49 million new families' homes, reaching a total number of 94 million total households now covered.

China's Internet user base will reach 800 million in 2015, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). As explained by MIIT minister Miao Wei, as the MIIT speeds up its "Broadband China" project and strengthens broadband construction in China, the number of Internet users in the country will continue to increase rapidly.

According to Miao, the MIIT will continue to expand the development of mobile Internet, e-commerce, cloud computing, and M2M information services in China with the goal of reaching 18 trillion yuan of annual ecommerce transactions, 2.3 million new jobs in the Internet sector, and yearly software and information service revenue of 4 trillion yuan by 2015.

Mobile: China's cell phone users exceed 900m

China's cell phone user grew by 41.39 million in the first four months of 2011 to 900.39 million in total, covering nearly two-thirds of the nation's population, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The number of telephone subscribers exceeded 1.19 billion by the end of April, with the number of fixed-line subscribers dropping by 2.93 million to 291.45 million, according to statistics released Tuesday by the MIIT on its website.

China will boost the integrated circuit (IC) sector at a "state strategy" level over the next five years through 2015, Yang Xueshan, vice minister of industry and information technology has said.

China's IC sales will likely top 330 billion yuan ($50.54 billion) in 2015 and meet 27.5 percent of domestic demand, Yang told Xinhua Friday.

China's top telecom regulator said on Thursday that the country plans to adopt the commercial use of fourth-generation (4G) technology "in three to five years", providing the first official timetable for China's move to the next generation telecom service.

Mobile: User numbers for 3G Internet top 50 million

Three years after the establishment of third-generation (3G) networks by China's three major telecommunications companies, the number of 3G users passed 50 million in January, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

That number is expected to swell to 150 million by the end of the year, the ministry said.

"Now telecom carriers have a large number of subsidized 3G phones available to attract users", which will intensify the competition between China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, said Kevin Wang, research director of China operations at the US-based research company, iSuppli Corp.
