TV: BesTV a new channel to view Huayi Brothers films

HUAYI Brothers Media has decided to use Shanghai Media Group's BesTV as a new channel to release its new films, company officials said this week.

Kung fu star Jackie Chan's latest action movie, "Chinese Zodiac" and Stephen Fung's martial arts film "Tai Chi" are among the films to be shown on BesTV's IPTV, digital TV and website later this year.

Media: China's Got Talent' producers seek gifted amateur filmmakers

THE reality competition series "China's Got Talent" has invested 1 million yuan (US$157,000) in selecting outstanding short films and original scripts, producers of the show said at the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival.

So far, several thousand short films made by amateur filmmakers have been submitted through 10 or so websites such as Youku.com and Sina.com. All of the entries are themed on dreams.

Alibaba.com, a leading business-to-business website of the Chinese Internet giant Alibaba Group, was delisted from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Wednesday.

The withdrawal of the listing, signaling privatization of the group's only publicly traded subsidiary, took effect at 4 p.m., according to a statement jointly issued by the group and the website Wednesday morning.

Telco: Deutsche Telekom establishes global development center in central China

Deutsche Telekom, the largest telecommunications company in Europe, announced the establishment of its first China-based global development center on Saturday.

The development center, located in Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei Province, was opened on Thursday. It will focus on the development of core technology, including vehicle telematics, cloud computing and air traffic tech.

M-Games: UCWeb To Build Open Mobile Games Platform

UCWeb, Chinese provider of mobile Internet software technology and browser services, confirmed that the company has acquired 9game.cn, a mobile games platform, and it plans to build an open platform for mobile Internet games.

Weirdly, an insider from UCWeb revealed to local media that the privately-held company already acquired 9game.cn in 2009 and it has been one of UCWeb's cash flow businesses. UCWeb hopes to promote its commercialization via mobile games and the mobile business is expected to become a core business of UCWeb in the future.

Chinese B2C e-commerce website 360buy.com and China Mobile have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Guangzhou to cooperate in eight sectors, including retail sales and customized products.

Space: China sends first female astronaut

China's fourth manned spacecraft lifted off at 6:37 pm on Saturday, sending its first female astronaut into space and history.

Shenzhou IX, carrying female astronaut Liu Yang and male astronauts Jing Haipeng and Liu Wang, blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu province into a blue sky.

Submarine Jiaolong to rise from over-6,000m-deep sea

China's manned deep-sea submersible, the Jiaolong, threw ballast iron and began to rise after reaching the depth of over-6,000 meters of the Mariana Trench on Friday.

China Space module Tiangong-1 made for female astronauts

CHINA'S Tiangong-1 space module has been specially designed for females, as the country's first woman astronaut will join Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft docking mission this week and live in the Tiangong for 13 days.

Despite the module being only 15 cubic meters inside, the female astronaut will have a separate toilet and bedroom that is soundproof to protect her privacy, Pang Zhihao, a researcher with the China Academy of Space Technology, said yesterday.

Green: Electric car charging sites start to spring up

Mobile: Smartphones beat TV for 54% of Chinese users

OVER half of Chinese smartphone owners would sooner give up TV than their mobile device, which represents a huge growth opportunity in the world's biggest phone market, according to a Google survey released yesterday.

In the survey, 54 percent of consumers preferred mobile devices than watching TV, said Google which developed Android, the world's most popular smartphone system.
